WHAT ARE THE POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS DURING A STRESS TEST?
The stress test is extremely safe. However, like any other test it can rarely have some complications, for which the doctor is always prepared. These include: chest pain fall in blood pressure and fainting irregularity of heart rhythm But don't worry since these complications are extremely rare.
IS A STRESS TEST ABSOLUTELY ACCURATE?
Unfortunately not. The stress test can detect heart problems in only about 70-80% of cases. In the other 20-30% even a stress test can miss the diagnosis. This is referred to as a false negative stress test. Moreover, sometimes a stress test may suggest that a problem exists, when actually the arteries of the heart are normal. This is termed as a false positive stress test and may occur in up to 10-20% of patients, especially women, people with high blood pressure or those taking some heart medicines.
